چکیده
This paper presents a large eddy simulation study of n-heptane spray combustion in an low temperature reform (LTR) gas environment constant volume chamber, under conditions relevant to single-fuel reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) engines. The LTR is made up partially oxidized intermediate species from rich n-heptane/air mixture external reformer. It found that higher results longer delay time the and liftoff length, due chemical effect difference reaction zone structures. A significantly different flame structure identified RCCI case combustion. After onset high ignition, double-layer established case, with diffusion layer lean premixed layer. affects flow field, which suppresses mixing around tip. As result, exhibits lower NOx formation but soot than case.

Spray Combustion Characteristics of Palm Biodiesel
The potential of Palm Methyl Esters (PME) as an alternative fuel for gas turbines is investigated using a swirl burner. The main air flow is preheated to 623 K and a swirling spray flame is established at atmospheric pressure. The spray combustion characteristics of PME are compared to diesel and Jet-A1 fuel under the same burner power output of 6 kW. Investigation of the fuel atomizing charact...
متن کاملLES of spray and combustion in an internal combustion engine
With the ever rising need for better fuel efficiency and lower emissions, the development of better engine technology is essential. Different strategies are being considered to increase engine efficiency, such as direct injection or downsizing. Certain regimes are clearly identified as optimal for certain range of loads. For gasoline engines, the Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) c...
متن کامل1362 Spray Combustion
The effect of fuel properties on the structure of swirling spray flames has been investigated. Droplet size, number density and velocity measurements have been carried out in pressureatomized spray flames using phase/Doppler interferometry. Four fuels with different physical properties were studied, namely n-heptane, methanol, 50/50 methanol/1-dodecanol mixture, and kerosene. The results indica...
متن کاملObservations of soot during droplet combustion at low gravity: heptane and heptane/monochloroaIkane mixtures
Experimental observations of the combustion of sooting fuel droplets, performed in a drop tower to create a low gravity environment, are reported. Free n-heptane droplets and suspended droplets of heptane. monochloroalkanes. and mixtures of monochloro-octane and heptane were studied. Initial droplet diameters ranged from 0.4 to I. 1 mm. The results suggest that soot may influence droplet vapori...
متن کاملStudy of Low-Temperature-Combustion Diesel Engines
Fuel cells have been recognized as a feasible alternative to current IC engines. A significant technical problem yet to be resolved is the on bound fuel supply before fuel cells can be practically used for vehicles. Use of an on-board fuel reformer can mitigate the fuel supply issue. In particular, using a diesel engine as on-board fuel reformer, combined with a fuel cell, is a strong candidate...
